Building Bridges is a program designed to keep Pit Bulls out of
shelters. We have two goals. The first is to help build a bridge
of communication between owners and their Pit Bulls in hopes
of keeping dogs from ever seeing the inside of a shelter. Our
second goal is assisted placement. If an owner elects to rehome
their Pit Bull, we can assist in promotion, screening and
placement. Again – we want to keep Pit Bulls out of shelters.

Why is this so important? The sad truth is that Pit Bulls do not
do well in shelters. Pit Bulls are known for their love of people.
They can become very depressed without human
companionship. Many Pits have issues with dog aggression.
Imagine if you didn't like dogs and had to sit in a cage right
across from another dog all day long. Pit Bulls can rapidly
deteriorate even in the best of shelter conditions.

Another sad truth is this; less than 1 in 500 Pit Bulls will find a
forever home. There are too many dogs and too few good
homes. The odds are not in your dogs favor. Many shelters will
not take in Pit Bulls, or have a policy of euthanizing the ones
they do take in. One thing is for sure, your dogs best chance is
to stay with you. If you’re ready to surrender your dog, you may
have already convinced yourself that your dog will be better off
somewhere else. You may have already cried, mourned, and felt
the guilt of giving up on your best friend. Take a deep breath –
we really want to help you.

There are many reasons why people surrender their dog to a
shelter. Sometimes, a dog’s behavior has gotten so out of
control that you feel like you can’t take it anymore. Barking,
chewing, jumping, digging, hyperactivity top the list of behavior
related reasons for surrender. Sometimes changes in our own
lives such as moving, divorce, loss or change of employment
make it a challenge to keep our dogs.

Dogs can test our patience when they are untrained or
improperly trained. Maybe you feel like you've tried everything.
But what if someone could give you a new set of training tools
that could get you and your dog back on track? What if there is
a piece of the puzzle that you’re missing through no fault of
your own – and that piece could get you back to that happy
time when things between you and your dog were good? Hello
Bully can help you put it all back together.

We offer free training consultations to people who are thinking
of surrendering their Pit Bull. We will meet with and your dog
and develop a plan of action that addresses your dog’s specific
issues. We also offer free or low cost training assistance for
those who need more hands on help.

If you elect to rehome your dog, we can help you to promote
your dog and screen potential adopters. Remember, shelters
are a very stressful environment for dogs. Many dogs develop
behavior problems while in shelters, reducing the likelihood that
they will be adopted. Your dog has a better chance of being
rehomed directly from your home. While we are helping you find
a new family for your dog, we can assist you in managing your
dog’s behavior.
