Hello Bully is a little rescue doing big things! We are 100% volunteer developed and driven. With the financial support of our donors, we even run a small facility — The Hello Bully Halfway House. If you’re passionate about ethical rescue and helping Pit Bulls, we want you on our team! Our dynamic organization has a variety of ways you can help. Check out our events page for an upcoming orientation. Questions? Our Volunteer Team can help! Email us at volunteer@hellobully.com

I love how Hello Bully allows each of us to step into a role that fits our skills and personality, enabling us to contribute to our common mission to help these amazing dogs in our own way.

Hello Bully Volunteer Requirements

Hello Bully Volunteers must be:

  1. 18 years or older (those under 18 may be able to participate in our Junior Volunteer program)
  2. Responsible and dedicated (as a volunteer-run organization, we treat our responsibilities as we would in a paying job)

After seeing how much of an impact Hello Bully has in these dogs’ lives, I wanted to be a part of it. And I feel better about myself because I know I’m doing what I can to help.

Volunteering on the Pit Fix Plus team not only allows me to help the breed, but it allows me to help their owners. The responses I receive are so gratifying. I feel like I am helping to make a difference. The best part is I am helping to make a difference with my inspiration curled up right next to me. I look at her and say to myself, YOU are the reason I do this.
—Shannon, Hello Bully Volunteer

Junior Volunteer Program

While the minimum age to be an active Hello Bully Volunteer is 18, we welcome children of all ages to be a part of our Junior Volunteer program. Junior Volunteers must attend a Volunteer Orientation with a parent or guardian who is willing to attend events with them.  They are expected to follow the same code of conduct as active volunteers and are prohibited from volunteering at events where alcohol will be served.

While Junior Volunteers are permitted to volunteer at The Hello Bully Halfway House, their role is limited.  Junior Volunteers are only permitted to work with dogs who are approved for their age and skill level by the Hello Bully Behavior Team.  While they are prohibited from handling dogs on their own, Junior Volunteers are encouraged to read to dogs in their kennels, work on simple obedience in our training room, and relax with dogs in our living room. Junior volunteers are required to be supervised by the parent/guardian at all times when interacting with the dogs.

Volunteering Outside of Pittsburgh

If you are interested in volunteering but are not local, online organizations like www.volunteermatch.org can help you find shelters and rescues close to you.  www.adoptapet.com also has a “Lend a Helping Paw” area where you can fill out a volunteer profile and be matched with nearby organizations.

Volunteering at The Hello Bully Halfway House gives me the respite I need to keep going. At first it was a way for me to keep busy after my husband passed away, but then it became a place I needed to be. My weekly shift is part of my life. Like breathing, I have to do it. These dogs have given me such love and acceptance that I can’t imagine my life any other way now.

My friends at Hello Bully are, I think, so outstanding because they’re inspired by dogs who are overlooked (or worse, judged). Our passion for this breed comes from an outright rejection of discrimination and a thirst for justice. I’m honored to be part of an organization that gets it. Like our dogs.
