Did you know that Hello Bully is a non-salaried 501c3 non-profit? That means
that 100% of your donations, and 100% of the profits from our merchandise
go directly to helping Pit Bulls. Thanks to your generosity and support, Hello
Bully's programs are thriving! We've included a coupon for your next trip to
our online store. If you haven't stopped by in awhile, there are lots of great

Our Building Bridges placement program helps to transition Pit Bulls form
home to home, keeping them out of the shelter system. Like so many rescues,
we rarely break even in adoption fees. Your help makes it possible for all of
our dogs to be spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and
on heartworm prevention.
Pit Fix Plus is a program for owned Pit Bulls in the greater Pittsburgh area.
Through a cooperative effort with area shelter clinics, we offer free
spay/neuter and vaccines. The only criteria is that the dog be a Pit Bull or a
predominantly Pit Bull mix. Our goal is to speuter 365 area Pit Bulls in 2009,
and we are well on our way thanks to your support! If you'd like to sponsor a
Pit Fix Plus package, please visit www.pitfixplus.com
Hello Bully's Pit Bull 101 program fosters understanding and advocacy through
awareness and education. Our Free Pit Bull Training Seminars help owners by
teaching basic training protocols, and management techniques.Dogs who have
basic obeidence skills are far less likely to be surrendered to a shelter. We have
some exciting new projects in the works for later this year. Let's just say that
when it comes to education - we believe it's best to get an early start!
SPEUTER FAQ
We get so many questions about spay/neuter. Here are just a few!
I heard that spaying my dog will make her fat and lazy - is this true?
Absolutely not! Dogs become overweight for the same reasons people do
- poor diet and not enough exercise. As dogs mature, their energy levels
may decrease, but spaying or neutering will not make them lazy.
Isn't it healthier for a dog to have one liter of puppies before you get
them fixed?
This is totally untrue. In fact, when female dogs are spayed before their
first heat, their chances of developing breast cancer is almost zero!
I know it's healthier to speuter my Pit Bull, but I just think it's unnatural!
Speutering is no more unnatural than genetically manipulating wolves,
creating hundreds of different breeds and inviting them to live in our
homes and be family companions. Since we have domesticated these
animals, we are responsible for their well being. Spay/neuter is an
important part of being a responsible owner.
I am thinking about breeding my Pit Bull. She is so pretty and nice, I am
sure her pups would be too. I also know I could find her pups good
homes. Is there anything I need to know before breeding?
We are always happy when people have wonderful dogs. This does not
mean that you should breed them. For every puppy that you produce, a
wonderful puppy or dog in a shelter or rescue will not find a home.
There are already so many Pit Bull puppies brought into the world and
euthanized because there are not enough good homes. Pit Bulls produce
large litters, sometimes up to 13 pups. Your dog’s temperament and
looks are no guarantee that they will produce pups just like them. Do you
look and act exactly like your mother? Do your siblings look and act
exactly like your father? Without years of selective breeding, health and
temperament testing and extensive breed knowledge, what you will likely
produce are surplus puppies that are low quality, possibly sick or
temperamentally unsound.
Can you really ensure that all of the pups will be placed in a good home?
Can you afford to have them all spayed/neutered and vaccinated before
sending them to another home? Will you offer a lifetime guarantee on the
pups that you rehome? Are you willing to chance the health problems
that your female may have in producing a litter? Most ethical breeders of
American Pit Bull terriers are NOT breeding their dogs at this time, due
to the overpopulation crisis.
The health and behavior benefits to altering your pet are reason enough
not to breed. Here are just a few benefits of spaying and neutering your
Pit Bull.
- Altered dogs are less likely to be aggressive
- Neutered males are far less likely to escape yards and roam
- Spaying drastically reduces the likelihood of breast cancer (to almost
zero if spayed before the first heat)
- Neutering eliminates the chance of testicular cancer
- Spaying eliminates the heat cycle
- Neutering reduces the likelihood of prostate enlargement, tumors and
infections
- Altered dogs have lower veterinary costs over their lifetime
- Altered dogs have less behavioral issues than in tact dogs
