Hi Tanner,

Games can be great for us dogs, but only when we follow rules made by our humans. Are you rude when you want to
play by annoying your mom or constantly trying to get her to play with you while she is busy doing other things? If
your mom is smart she won't play with you when you are behaving like this. Instead, she should put your toy away
where you can not see it and will only bring it out when she wants to get a game going with you. This makes playtime
extra special and gives you the opportunity to bond with her.

Smart humans will incorporate obedience training before, during and after play. Since we love to learn, this makes tug
time even more fun! What can you work on during play?
  • Polite sits or downs while waiting to play - a safe alternative instead of just grabbing the toy
  • Drop It and Take It - this way you are not always controlling play from your human. An easy way to work on
this is by using two of the exact same tug toys.
  • Stay- a great way to work on self control.

Doing obedience work for toy play is a fun way to learn without just rewarding with treats. Just remember, if you
begin acting rude, bratty or impatient, your mom should stop play for a while. This way you learn, the only way to get
what you want is by being polite.

Hope you’ll be tugging again (by the rules, or course) in no time!

Love and Kisses!

FROM BUST DOG TO BULLY BREED AMBASSADOR, MEET KOLBY!
ASK MISS MEIKO
Advice from a Pretty Pitte Princess who knows that manners matter!

Dear Miss Meiko,

I love to play tug-o-war with a rope toy. My mom and I have
played since I was a pup and it's my favorite. I usually need a nap
afterwards because I'm all tired out.

Recently, my mom heard from someone that it is not a good idea
to play this game with me. Now we do not play tug anymore, I
am bored and I miss my favorite game. It's so much fun and I
hope you can help me convince my mom that it's a good game.
What do you think?

Thanks for your help,
Tanner Misses Tugging!
Not looking for a dog right now? Please forward this on to your friends. You never know... a friend of a friend
could be just the right person willing to give a second chance and a forever home to a dog in need! For more

Kolby is a 1+ year old American Pit Bull Terrier. He came to
Pittsburgh by way of the largest federal dog fighting bust in US
history. Members of Hello Bully met Kolby on trips to volunteer for
the Humane Society of Missouri to care for these dogs (known as
the Missouri 500).

Kolby came to Pittsburgh with no life experience of living in a
home. He had spent most of his life on a chain. All of the things in
the life of a normal dog were new to him. While he was immature,
Kolby fast-forwarded through his late puppyhood more quickly than
we had expected. He is a smart dog who has proven himself to be
extremely resilient.

In the last three months, Kolby has learned all of the basics. He
knows sit, down, stay, speak and shush. He is also a very proud
graduate of the Western PA Humane Society’s Bully Breed
Ambassador class. Kolby is dog social, both in class and in his
foster homes. However, we would prefer that he go to a single dog
home because of his background. Of course, families with breed
experience will be considered on a case by case basis.

Kolby enjoyed the holidays in his foster homes. He is the kind of
dog who has the energy to be active, but also really enjoys just
"hanging out" with his human friends and being one of the gang.
There are even rumours online that Kolby has become quite the
gamer on XBOX!

We are looking for a family who will continue with Kolby’s
training. He has the potential to earn his Canine Good Citizen award
and therapy dog certification. Adopters must be willing to keep in
contact with our organization as well as other organizations
involved with the rescue of the “MO500.”
